Daylight Reporters, the Abuja-based fast-growing newspaper, has announced key editorial appointments in an effort to reshape and expand its editorial scope and direction. In a statement signed by the publisher and Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Alhaji Dahiru Hassan Kera, and issued to The Guardian on Thursday, the appointments were confirmed.
New Editor-in-Chief Appointed
According to the statement, Mr. Fidelis Mac-Leva, a seasoned journalist and editor, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief to oversee newsroom operations. He will work with a team comprising Anthony Maliki as Editor and Adah Sunday Abah as News Editor. The statement noted that Mac-Leva is a graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri and has over two decades of progressive experience in political reporting, investigative journalism, and editorial management across leading Nigerian media organisations.
“His strong investigative footprint, especially at Daily Trust and the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), brings a wealth of experience to reshape the editorial direction of the online digital platform,” the statement said. It added that Mac-Leva has, over the years, worked in various newsrooms, including the Daily Times, covering politics, governance, and human rights reporting. “Mac-Leva’s depth in investigative reporting and commitment to holding power to account align perfectly with Daylight Reporter’s vision,” it added.
Role and Responsibilities
As Editor-in-Chief, Mac-Leva will oversee newsroom operations, set editorial policy, and drive investigations focusing on governance gaps, security, and citizens’ rights. Also appointed to the editorial team are Anthony Maliki and Adah Sunday Abah, who will serve as Editor and News Editor, respectively.
Background of New Appointees
Maliki, a graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Jos, also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos. He previously served as State Correspondent (Borno) for The PUNCH, Senior Correspondent covering Kaduna, Benue, and Plateau for Champion Newspapers, and later worked with Daily Trust and LEADERSHIP Newspapers as Assistant Editor. Adah Sunday Abah is a Mass Communication graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. He worked with LEADERSHIP as a reporter and senior reporter, and later became Assistant Business Editor at Aljazirah Nigeria Newspaper, Abuja.
