Kaduna State Accelerates Digital Education Transformation
The Kaduna State Government has announced plans to accelerate the transformation of its education sector into a technology-driven and globally competitive system. This initiative aims to enhance digital learning and strengthen international academic partnerships, as part of broader education reforms.
Global Engagement at RIDE Conference
Commissioner for Education, Abubakar Sani Sambo, disclosed in a statement that the state sent a high-powered delegation of academics to the 2026 Research in Distance and E-Learning (RIDE) Conference at the University of London. The delegation, comprising five professors, engaged with global experts in digital, blended, and distance education to explore innovative approaches.
Institutional Collaborations and MoU
During the conference, the delegation held discussions with the University of London Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE), where they showcased research from Kaduna State University (KASU). This engagement has opened pathways for institutional collaboration between KASU and the University of London, focused on strengthening capacity in digital and distance learning. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is set to be signed soon to enhance online education delivery.
Implementation of Digital Initiatives
Sambo explained that a pilot Central Learning Management System (LMS) will be introduced at KASU as a model for wider implementation across the state. Selected academics will receive training in digital pedagogy and course delivery to support this transition. Additionally, both institutions will embark on joint research and academic exchange programmes, with CODE providing technical support for digital learning infrastructure.
Validation of Ongoing Reforms
The conference validated ongoing reforms in Kaduna’s education sector, particularly the expansion of hybrid learning and computer-based testing systems. Efforts by the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA) in strengthening digital tools and promoting equitable access to education were commended. Initiatives aimed at reaching out-of-school children through flexible and distance learning models were also highlighted, aligning with global best practices in blended education.
Delegation Members and Future Outlook
Members of the Kaduna delegation included the Vice Chancellor of KASU, Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa; Prof. Yusha’u Ango; Prof. Usman Abubakar Zaria, Director-General of KSSQAA; and Dr. Fatima Shehu Kabir of the Institute of Education, KASU, among others. This move underscores Kaduna's commitment to leveraging technology and international partnerships to revolutionize its education system, ensuring it meets global standards and addresses local needs effectively.
