About the Katsina State Scholarship Trust Fund
Established in 1988 following Katsina State's creation from Kaduna State, the KTSSB was transformed in 2005 by the late Alhaji Umar Musa Yar'adua, who provided a seed fund to create a sustainable educational support system. The board is a parastatal of the Katsina State Government, responsible for bursaries, special and full scholarships, and student loans at local and international levels.
What the Scholarship Covers
All scholarships cover tuition fees. Some include accommodation stipends or monthly allowances. Main categories include tuition fee coverage, bursary allowances for newly admitted students, academic excellence awards for outstanding graduates, and special needs scholarships for students with disabilities. In the latest disbursement, Governor Mallam Dikko Radda approved ₦677,572,815 for bursary allowances, academic excellence awards, and special needs scholarships, including ₦15 million for first-class graduates and ₦7 million for students with special needs.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be Katsina State indigenes from one of the 34 local government areas, including Bakori, Batagarawa, Batsari, Baure, Bindawa, Charanchi, Dan Musa, Dandume, Danja, Daura, Dutsi, Dutsin-Ma, Faskari, Funtua, Ingawa, Jibia, Kafur, Kaita, Kankara, Kankia, Katsina, Kurfi, Kusada, Mai'Adua, Malumfashi, Mani, Mashi, Matazu, Musawa, Rimi, Sabuwa, Safana, Sandamu, and Zango. Holders of valid full-time admission into approved institutions with good academic standing and proof of indigene status qualify. Fresh students need at least five credits including Mathematics and English in WASSCE or NECO in one sitting. Postgraduate students (Master's and PhD) are also eligible, as are those studying abroad.
Academic CGPA Requirements
Need-based scholarships require a minimum CGPA of 2.0 on a 5.0 scale or 1.6 on a 4.0 scale. Merit-based scholarships require 4.0 on a 5.0 scale or 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Postgraduate Master's applicants need a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale or 3.6 on a 4.0 scale, while PhD applicants need a Master's with merit. Spill-over students are not eligible.
Required Documents
Applicants must upload a local government indigene certificate, admission letter, school ID card, recent passport photograph, academic results, birth certificate or declaration of age, and national ID or student registration number. Additional documents include First School Leaving Certificate, SSCE results, statement of results showing CGPA, and JAMB admission letter for university students.
How to Apply
Visit ktssb.org.ng and click on Apply for Scholarship. Steps: Go to the Form & Award Matters page, purchase a scratch card, fill in the form with a passport photograph not exceeding 16kb, submit and print the online acknowledgment card. Then attend an interview/verification with original credentials. The KTSSB reviews all submissions and verifies enrollment before approving funds. The application is free; no payments are required.
The Award Letter and Table Payment
Approved beneficiaries receive an award letter confirming their scholarship. For the 2024/2025 session, distribution began on 28 October 2025, with Nigerian Law School students reporting to the board headquarters between 27 and 30 October 2025. The table payment is the schedule for award letter distribution and payment processing at institutions. The total disbursement for 2024/2025 was ₦677,572,815, following an earlier ₦372,051,176 release in September 2024 for continuing students.
Deadline
The deadline varies each session. For 2025/2026, the official portal has not confirmed a date. Applicants should check ktssb.org.ng regularly. Late applications are not accepted.
