Lagos State University (LASU) has confirmed it is investigating a complaint that more than 100 final-year students were prevented from graduating because a lecturer failed to upload their results as far back as their 300-level year. The university responded on Saturday, August 22, 2026, to a viral post by user Son Of Ayo (@TheAjakeManger), who alleged on August 21 that students faced an extra year not due to failure but because results were never entered into the system.
University Management Responds to Allegation
In a statement on its official X account, @LASUOfficial, the university said: "The attention of the University Management has been drawn to this allegation, and the matter is currently being looked into. Thank you for bringing it to our attention."
The original post, which had gathered 33,200 views by the evening of August 22, also claimed that when affected students raised the issue, a Head of Department told them to "trust the process."
Students Report Wider Problem Beyond Graduating Set
The university's response drew further complaints from current students who said the problem was not limited to the graduating class. @obi_anyaibe wrote that unuploaded results and erroneous outstanding courses were also affecting incoming 200-level, 300-level, and 400-level students.
@GeeKinqest__ added that students moving into 400-level were carrying two English course outstandings from 200-level, alongside course code changes that had left approximately four zeroes on their academic portals.
Criticism Over Management's Awareness
Other users questioned why the university management was unaware of the situation before it became a social media issue. @Olaworeabi18417 asked how an institution with an examinations and records department could only learn of the problem through public outcry, pointing out that clear timelines exist for when lecturers must submit results.
@adamsabdulshak2 raised concerns that the issue had been ongoing for some time and questioned what steps management had previously taken to stop it from recurring. @Olajide1699589 was more direct, writing: "Are you telling us you are not aware of what's going on in your school before it reached Twitter? Most of y'all are just incompetent."
Not all responses were critical of the institution. @TenQQGod called on the public to recognise staff members performing well, singling out Mrs Abiodun Meruwoma of the LASU examinations and records department for praise over her handling of alumni transcripts and other record matters. @Praise1134 directed frustration at lecturers directly: "It is God that will punish useless lecturers that don't give students their real score."
No Timeline for Resolution Yet
LASU had not provided further details on its findings or a timeline for resolution as of the time of this report. Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide emerged as the overall best graduating student of LASU for the 2025/2026 academic session. The Aerospace Engineering student graduated with a CGPA of 4.97 and First-Class Honours at LASU's 29th and 30th combined convocation. The Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme awarded Oluolamide N10 million in recognition of his academic performance.
