NYSC Suspends Orientation for Niger State Corps Members Due to Renovation
NYSC Suspends Orientation for Niger State Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has temporarily suspended the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation programme for prospective corps members deployed to Niger State. The decision was announced in a public notice released on the NYSC official X account on Sunday, June 14, citing ongoing renovation work at the state orientation camp.

Reason for Suspension

The NYSC stated that rehabilitation work at the Paiko orientation camp in Paikoro Local Government Area is still underway, making it necessary to postpone the programme. Affected corps members were instructed not to report to camp as previously scheduled. The agency assured that fresh details on reporting dates and locations would be communicated at short notice.

Camp Renovation Background

The renovation follows severe damage caused by a windstorm earlier this year. The storm affected major structures, including male hostels, the multipurpose hall, kitchen, and staff quarters. Governor Mohammed Bago ordered immediate repair works to restore the facility.

Impact on Corps Members

The NYSC management expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to affected corps members and their parents. Prospective corps members are advised to await further instructions regarding new reporting arrangements. Similar infrastructure-related disruptions have occurred this year in Enugu and Osun states due to renovation projects at their orientation camps.

Nationwide Orientation Exercise

The 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation exercise began nationwide on June 10 and is expected to conclude on June 30. However, corps members posted to Niger State will now receive updated directives from the NYSC.

In a related development, the federal government has introduced a new requirement for prospective corps members: a compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) is now mandatory for mobilisation. This measure aims to curb certificate fraud and strengthen the credibility of the NYSC mobilisation process.
