The Orphanage Sanctuary (TSO), a non-profit organization dedicated to education, welfare, and community support, is continuing its efforts to improve access to education for children from disadvantaged communities in Lagos State. Among its flagship projects is the 'Educate a Child' initiative, designed to assist children facing financial and social barriers to formal education.
Program Details and Impact
Through the scheme, selected beneficiaries receive comprehensive support covering school fees, uniforms, examination registration, and essential learning materials. The initiative recently achieved a significant milestone with the successful graduation of its first cohort of sponsored students from secondary school. Several of these beneficiaries have gained admission into universities across Nigeria, highlighting the transformative impact of sustained educational support on children from low-income backgrounds.
Beyond Financial Assistance
In addition to financial aid, the program provides mentorship and academic guidance to help students remain focused on their studies and future ambitions. Candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions also receive sponsorship for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations. According to TSO, the initiative was launched to reduce educational challenges faced by children in underserved communities while promoting long-term academic and personal development.
Future Expansion Plans
The organization has announced plans to extend the program to more communities across Lagos State, with additional students expected to benefit from the educational support initiative. This expansion underscores TSO's commitment to bridging the education gap and empowering vulnerable children through learning opportunities.
