UI Admits Boy Who Worked at Filling Station, Reveals JAMB Score
UI Admits Filling Station Worker, Reveals JAMB Score

The University of Ibadan (UI) has admitted a young man who worked at a filling station into its Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) programme. Seyi Catalyst, the admitted student, shared his inspiring journey on Facebook, detailing his multiple JAMB attempts and final scores.

From Filling Station to Medical School

Seyi Catalyst graduated from Ayedaade Grammar School in Ikire, Osun State in 2023. That same year, he wrote his first JAMB exam, scoring 274 out of 400, which was the second-highest in his school. However, he did not meet the MBBS cut-off mark at UI. He sat for the UI Post-UTME and scored 64 out of 100, falling short of the required mark.

Determined to pursue his dream, he took a job at a filling station for about two months. He left the job when JAMB 2024 was approaching, having gathered more information about the admission process. In 2024, he wrote JAMB again but still did not secure admission into MBBS.

Third Attempt Success

In 2025, while still working at the filling station, Seyi sat for JAMB for the third time. He scored 330 out of 400, which he said was below his goal but still a high score. He then took the UI Post-UTME and scored 79 out of 100. This time, he beat the cut-off mark and was offered admission into MBBS about a month later.

According to Seyi, his initial lack of exposure and ignorance about how cut-off marks are calculated led him to believe that scoring 300+ was only for geniuses. He had no siblings who had gained admission before to guide him. After repeated attempts and gathering information, he finally achieved his goal.

Key Scores and Timeline

  • 2023 JAMB: 274/400; UI Post-UTME: 64/100
  • 2024 JAMB: Not specified; no admission
  • 2025 JAMB: 330/400; UI Post-UTME: 79/100; admitted to MBBS

Seyi Catalyst shared his story on Facebook, writing: "Yesterday, I matriculated at the University of Ibadan as a Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) student. I want to share my admission story and the blessings that came with it." He expressed gratitude for the opportunity and encouraged others not to give up on their dreams.
