Cardtonic, a leading African fintech company, has launched the Upskill 4.0 initiative to bridge the tech skills gap in Nigeria and Ghana. The program targets young professionals and graduates, offering intensive training in software development, data analytics, and cybersecurity. Enrollment and Impact
Over 1,000 participants have enrolled in the first cohort, with a 40% female representation across both countries. The program includes mentorship from industry experts and a guaranteed internship with partner companies. 'This is a game-changer for African tech talent,' said program coordinator Nana Akufo-Addo. Cardtonic aims to train 5,000 individuals by 2027.
Curriculum and Partnerships
The six-month curriculum covers Python, JavaScript, cloud computing, and AI fundamentals. Participants receive certifications recognized by tech giants like Google and Microsoft. Strategic partnerships with universities in Lagos and Accra provide academic credit for completers. 'We are building a pipeline of skilled workers ready for the global market,' Ogunlesi added.
Future Plans
Cardtonic plans to expand Upskill 4.0 to other African countries by 2028, targeting regions with high youth unemployment. The company has allocated $2 million for scholarships and infrastructure. 'This is just the beginning of a continental movement,' Akufo-Addo noted.
