Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, the member representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has facilitated the establishment of Digital Learning Centres in four secondary schools in Oyo State. This initiative aims to equip students with relevant digital skills and prepare them for the demands of the modern economy.
Beneficiary Schools and Objectives
Olajide, who is also the Allied Peoples' Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, stated that the initiative is designed to expand access to technology-driven education and promote digital inclusion among young people. The beneficiary schools are African Church Grammar School, Apata; Our Lady of Apostle Secondary School, Odo-Ona, Apata; Army Barracks Grammar School, Eleyele; and Ibadan Boys High School.
Digital Skills for the Future
Speaking with journalists at the Tech 3.0 Convergence organised by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) in Abuja, the lawmaker explained that the centres will provide students with opportunities to acquire digital knowledge and practical technology skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
According to him, the project forms part of his broader commitment to educational advancement, youth empowerment and human capital development across Oyo State. He stated, "The future belongs to those who are digitally equipped. These learning centres are designed to expose our students to technology, innovation and digital learning opportunities that will prepare them for the global economy."
Expected Impact and Future Plans
Olajide noted that hundreds of students are expected to benefit annually from the initiative, adding that measures have been put in place to integrate technology into teaching and learning within the beneficiary schools. As Chairman of the House Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, he has consistently championed policies and programmes that promote technology adoption, innovation and digital capacity development across the country.
The federal lawmaker explained that the centres represent the first phase of a broader digital education agenda targeted at Oyo South Senatorial District. He disclosed that plans are underway to replicate similar facilities and expand technology-driven educational initiatives across the nine local government areas in the district if elected to the Senate.
Focus on STEM and Digital Literacy
Olajide said the proposed agenda will focus on digital infrastructure development, digital literacy programmes, technology innovation, youth capacity building and improved access to learning resources. He also stressed the need for greater investment in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, noting that sustainable economic growth depends largely on the availability of a technologically skilled workforce.
According to him, innovation, entrepreneurship and digital empowerment remain critical drivers of development in the 21st century. Olajide expressed confidence that investments in digital education will contribute significantly to youth empowerment, economic growth and technological advancement, insisting that preparing young people for future opportunities must remain a priority for leaders at all levels.
