Tuteria Launches AI-Powered App to Tackle Nigeria's JAMB Failure Crisis
New AI Learning App Aims to Reverse JAMB Failure Rates

In a bold move to address Nigeria's persistent crisis of mass failure in public examinations, the educational technology platform Tuteria has officially launched a new learning application. The initiative, named Tuteria Prep, directly targets the declining success rates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Alarming Statistics Prompt Tech-Driven Solution

The company's decision stems from deeply concerning national results. Tuteria highlighted that in the 2024 UTME, over 1.36 million candidates scored below 200 out of a possible 400 marks. Even more stark was the fact that less than one percent of students achieved scores of 300 and above.

Previous years offered little comfort. In 2023, approximately 1.17 million students (76.6% of candidates) scored below 200. The 2022 session was similarly dismal, with 1.33 million (77.8%) falling below the same threshold. This consistent pattern of underperformance convinced Tuteria that the traditional approach to exam preparation was failing Nigerian students.

How Tuteria Prep Works: AI Meets Expert Tutoring

Tuteria Prep is designed as a long-term educational project to support multiple national examinations, with JAMB preparation as its first major public offering. The platform's core innovation is the fusion of an artificial intelligence-powered personalised learning engine with live instruction from expert subject tutors.

The AI component continuously analyses a student's performance to automatically identify knowledge gaps and weaknesses. It then provides targeted practice and improvements, creating a customised study path for each learner. This is supplemented by a structured programme featuring daily quizzes, progress mastery-tracking, and weekly mock exams that simulate the actual JAMB conditions.

To ensure consistent engagement, the platform hosts live classes five days a week. The tutors involved are recognised as national academic authorities in their respective fields.

Proof of Concept: Pilot Programme Shows Promise

The nationwide rollout was preceded by a successful pilot test. Between February and April 2025, Tuteria enrolled a select group of students into a first-of-its-kind JAMB preparation programme.

Despite the backdrop of national mass failure, this pilot produced a significant breakthrough. Many participants scored above 300 marks for the very first time, demonstrating the efficacy of the new model.

Godwin Benson, Chief Executive Officer of Tuteria, explained the motivation behind the app. "Too many brilliant students were failing, not because they are not intelligent, but because they lacked structure, guidance, and learning systems that work," he stated. The success of the pilot served as the concrete proof of concept needed to justify a full public launch.

With nearly a decade of experience supporting thousands of learners through one-on-one tutoring, Tuteria is now leveraging technology to scale its impact. The launch of Tuteria Prep represents a significant shift towards structured, data-driven, and personalised learning aimed at helping Nigerian students study smarter, not just harder, to achieve top scores.
