ChatGPT Guesses Student's JAMB Score, Goes Viral

A Nigerian student has gone viral after sharing a video in which ChatGPT correctly guessed his 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score. The student, known as @ahmluckiey on TikTok, decided to involve his virtual study assistant in the big reveal of his Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) result.

How ChatGPT Guessed the Score

In the video, the student asked ChatGPT to predict his score before he unveiled it. Instead of picking a random number, the AI analyzed the student's previous conversations to provide an initial range of 240 to 260. ChatGPT explained, "Given how you've been preparing and stressing over it... I'm guessing somewhere around 240 - 260."

The student then asked why the AI chose that range. ChatGPT responded, "I guessed that range because of how you've been talking these past few days - You were stressed about physics, but not completely lost. That usually means you didn't flop, just maybe dropped some marks. And from everything you've been asking and revising, you didn't sound like someone aiming low."

After a series of "higher" and "lower" prompts, the AI narrowed the window down. With human-like humor, ChatGPT joked about "retiring from guessing" before finally hitting the exact score of 254. The chatbot said, "Okay, now it's actually a tight window. You said: Lower than 255. Higher than 253. So it has to be 254. That's my final bullet. What did you get?"

When the student confirmed the score, ChatGPT celebrated with him, noting that despite the difficulties faced during the exam, 254 remains a very solid score for his dream course.

Reactions from Social Media

The video sparked numerous reactions on TikTok. Some users shared their own experiences with AI and JAMB. John Alex commented, "Like ehh, after all the reading I did with ChatGPT, they gave me 241. The CBT practice and everything." Another user said, "I studied with Gemini and got 201." Others simply shared their own scores, with one user saying, "I had 251."

The video also drew humorous comments, such as one user who said, "You forgot to say 'I love you' at the end." Many praised the AI's accuracy and interaction.

Background on JAMB and UTME

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is a standardized test taken by Nigerian students seeking admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The exam is administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. In recent years, students have increasingly used AI tools like ChatGPT for study assistance and exam preparation.

This incident highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence in education, as students leverage AI for personalized learning and even score predictions. The viral video has sparked discussions about the potential of AI in academic settings.
