JAMB Denies UTME Fee Increase for 2026, Confirms Registration Costs
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strong denial regarding reports claiming an increase in registration fees for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). In an official statement released on Friday, February 27, 2026, the board described the circulating information as "false, misleading and entirely unfounded."
Official Fee Structure Remains Unchanged
According to Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB's spokesperson who signed the statement, the approved charges for UTME registration have remained consistent since 2019. The board emphasized that candidates, parents, and guardians should disregard the rumors and rely exclusively on official announcements from JAMB's verified platforms.
The board provided a detailed breakdown of the current fee structure:
- UTME without mock examination: ₦7,200
- UTME with mock examination: ₦8,700
- Direct Entry candidates: ₦5,700
Fee Components and Historical Context
JAMB explained that these fees cover multiple essential services including the application charge, reading text materials, Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre services, and bank charges. The additional cost for candidates opting for the mock examination reflects the extra administrative and logistical requirements of that component.
The board recalled that the Federal Executive Council approved a reduction in UTME application fees back in 2018, which took effect in 2019. Since that reduction, no increases have been implemented, making the current fee structure seven years old by the time of the 2026 examination.
