JAMB: Maths No Longer Mandatory for Some University Courses

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that Mathematics is no longer compulsory for admission into some university courses across Nigeria.

New Admission Policy Explained

Speaking during an interview with the Nigerian Television Authority, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin explained that the waiver only applies to certain programs where Mathematics has little or no relevance.

According to him, courses such as Hausa, Arabic, and Christian Religious Studies may no longer require a credit pass in Mathematics for admission.

Policy Decision Process

He also stated that universities and other stakeholders jointly decide admission policies during annual policy meetings led by the Minister of Education. The change is aimed at aligning Nigeria's education system with global standards.
