The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Segun Aina, has announced a comprehensive five-pillar reform agenda designed to strengthen governance, expand digital infrastructure, and enhance service delivery over the next five years. The announcement came on his first day in office, marking a significant transition for the examination body.
A New Era for JAMB
Mr Aina formally assumed leadership on Monday, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who served as registrar for a decade before handing over on Friday. The new registrar's plan, dubbed Project 2:5:7, outlines two strategic objectives, five enduring pillars, and seven flagship initiatives to be implemented from 2026 to 2031.
According to a statement by JAMB's spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, Mr Aina's development plan aims to consolidate previous reforms while positioning the board as "Africa's most trusted, innovative and accessible assessment and admissions institution." The registrar pledged to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor through innovation, stronger institutional systems, and improved service delivery.
The Five Pillars Explained
The five pillars of the agenda are integrity, service, governance, technology, and partnerships. Mr Aina detailed each pillar's focus during his announcement, emphasizing their role in transforming JAMB's operations.
On integrity, the registrar stressed the need to strengthen institutional credibility through measures such as ISO 27001 Information Security Certification, independent technology reviews, and systems that promote transparency and accountability. He also committed to improving service delivery by enhancing customer experience and increasing engagement with candidates, parents, tertiary institutions, and other stakeholders.
Governance and Technology
Governance reforms will focus on strengthening performance monitoring, contract management, operational resilience, and internal accountability. The board plans to expand its digital infrastructure through scalable platforms and deploy artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve decision-making and service delivery.
Partnerships will be deepened with financial institutions, including fintech companies, educational organizations, and international partners to support innovation and improve service delivery, Mr Aina said.
Seven Flagship Initiatives
To implement the agenda, Mr Aina announced seven flagship initiatives for the next five years. These include an independent review of JAMB's technology infrastructure, attainment of ISO 27001 Information Security Certification, development of a unified JAMB mobile application, strategic communication and brand repositioning, establishment of a unified customer service platform, implementation of a paperless enterprise-wide digital administration system, and enhanced staff welfare and capacity development.
According to him, these initiatives are intended to make the board more responsive, digitally integrated, secure, and efficient while improving public confidence in its operations. Mr Aina emphasized that while technology remains central to JAMB's transformation, people remain its greatest asset.
Commitment to Candidates
Mr Aina noted that every registration represents the aspirations of a young Nigerian and the sacrifices of parents and guardians. He assured candidates and stakeholders that his administration would continue to simplify processes while upholding fairness, transparency, and integrity.
He also urged staff members to embrace innovation, professionalism, and teamwork, stating that institutions become stronger when shared values and a common purpose unite their workforce. The registrar's announcement signals a continued commitment to JAMB's statutory responsibility of providing fair, credible, and equitable access to tertiary education through transparent registration, credible assessments, and merit-based placement.
