The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has officially released the first batch of results for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. This significant announcement comes as thousands of candidates across Nigeria await their performance scores. The board has implemented a phased approach to result access, with immediate checking available only through SMS channels.
Current Result Access Limited to SMS Platform
According to JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, candidates who participated in the examination on Thursday, April 16, should utilize the approved SMS method to retrieve their scores. The board has established specific procedures for this temporary access period before enabling full portal functionality.
To check results via SMS, candidates must:
- Use the phone number registered during JAMB enrollment
- Ensure the device has at least N50 airtime credit
- Send the text message "UTMERESULT" to the official shortcode 55019
- Await automatic delivery of scores via return text message
This SMS method represents the exclusive approved channel for initial result checking. The board emphasized that any attempts to manipulate or alter official score messages constitute criminal offenses under existing regulations. Benjamin specifically warned against fabricating scores to mislead parents or institutions, noting that such actions carry serious legal consequences.
Portal Access and Official Result Slips Delayed
JAMB has clarified that the ability to print official result slips remains temporarily unavailable. The comprehensive result documents, which include candidate photographs and detailed score breakdowns, will become accessible once the board completes portal updates. This development phase requires additional preparation time before activation.
When portal access becomes available, candidates will need to:
- Log in using registered email addresses and passwords
- Pay a specified fee for result slip processing
- Download and print multiple copies for admission screening
The board strongly advises candidates to maintain several printed copies, as tertiary institutions typically require these documents during admission verification processes. JAMB also cautions against using unofficial websites for result checking or payments, highlighting the risk of fraud and misinformation during this critical period.
Examination Timeline and Security Measures
The 2026 UTME commenced on April 16 and continues through April 22, with testing occurring daily at centers nationwide. This extended schedule accommodates the substantial number of participants while maintaining examination integrity.
Previously, JAMB implemented strict security protocols for the examination halls. The board published a comprehensive list of 23 prohibited items, permitting only HB pencils and examination slips within Computer-Based Test centers. Candidates found with unauthorized materials face immediate disqualification, reinforcing the board's commitment to examination fairness and standardization.
