The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that certificates for candidates who sat the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates are now available online through its Digital Certificate Platform. The examination body shared the update in a post on its official X account on Friday, stating: "The 2026 WASSCE for School candidate Certificate is now available for access on the WAEC Digital Certificate Platform."
What the Digital Certificate Platform Offers
The 2026 WASSCE certificate can now be accessed, downloaded and shared online through WAEC's official platform. This means candidates can view, download and even share their certificates digitally without waiting to collect a physical copy first. The digital certificate can be accessed through the official WAEC website or by using the WAEC Digital Certificate mobile app available on the Google Play Store.
WAEC explained that the Digital Certificate Platform offers two major services. The first is Certificate Access, which allows candidates to view, download and share their certificates. The second is Certificate Confirmation, designed for universities, employers and other organisations that want to verify the authenticity of a candidate's WAEC certificate.
How to Download Your 2026 WAEC Certificate
To download your certificate, follow these steps:
- Visit the WAEC Digital Certificate Platform through the official WAEC website.
- Select Certificate Access.
- Enter your examination details and other required identification information.
- Complete the verification process, including the One-Time Password (OTP) if prompted.
- View and download your digital certificate.
- Save it securely or share it directly with schools, employers or other institutions that request it.
Candidates should note that this is not the same portal used to check examination results. The WAEC Digital Certificate Platform is strictly for accessing certificates, while the result-checking portal remains the platform for checking WASSCE results using the required PIN and serial number.
Background and Impact
The update comes shortly after WAEC released the 2026 WASSCE results. According to the examination body, 1,950,726 candidates sat for the examination, while 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54%, obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. The 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates was conducted between April 21 and June 19, 2026, with candidates from more than 24,200 secondary schools participating.
For many candidates applying for university admission, scholarships or jobs, the digital certificate is expected to make the process of accessing and verifying WAEC credentials much easier.
