Kaura Namoda Polytechnic Achieves Major Milestone with Accreditation of 38 New Programmes
In a significant development for higher education in Nigeria, Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda has successfully secured accreditation for 38 new academic programmes. This announcement was made by the institution's rector, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, during a press briefing following the matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Expansion from Three to Forty-One Accredited Courses
Dr. Yusuf revealed that prior to his assumption of office in February 2025, the polytechnic had only three accredited courses. The recent accreditation of 38 additional programmes marks a dramatic transformation, positioning the institution to compete more effectively with its peers across the country.
The rector emphasized that this expansion provides students with broader opportunities to pursue various academic paths, including both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes. He noted that the newly accredited programmes are designed to equip students with modern technological and practical skills, addressing critical manpower needs in various sectors.
Infrastructure and Workforce Development
During his address, Dr. Yusuf highlighted several key achievements accomplished within his first year of leadership:
- Completion of a 2.5-kilometre perimeter fence to enhance campus security
- Remodelling of the institution's ICT infrastructure to support digital learning
- Renovation and construction of student hostels with support from the administration of Dauda Lawal
- Recruitment of 30 new staff members to strengthen the academic and administrative workforce
These developments, according to the rector, have significantly improved the institution's capacity to deliver quality technical education.
Discipline and Security Measures
Dr. Yusuf used the occasion to address matters of campus discipline and security. He urged both students and staff to shun acts of indiscipline, specifically mentioning cultism, robbery, and other forms of misconduct. The rector warned that offenders would face strict sanctions in accordance with institutional policies.
He particularly advised female students to avoid indecent dressing, stressing that the institution maintains high standards of discipline and decorum. On security matters, Dr. Yusuf assured that the safety of students and staff remains a top priority, with the institution working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
The rector stated that the polytechnic has not recorded any major security incidents and assured parents and guardians that adequate measures have been implemented to safeguard lives and property on campus.
Call for Increased Government Funding
Despite these achievements, Dr. Yusuf appealed to the Federal Government to increase funding for the institution. He noted that improved financial support would enhance the polytechnic's capacity to fully deliver on its educational mandate and maintain the momentum of recent developments.
The matriculation ceremony itself saw 1,450 new students formally admitted into the institution, marking the beginning of their academic journey at the newly expanded polytechnic.
