NANS Commends Transformative Reforms at Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued high praise for the ongoing reforms at the Federal Polytechnic in Kaltungo, Gombe State. According to the association, these strategic changes have led to significant improvements in academic standards, the accreditation of key courses, and the introduction of new programmes designed to support various sectors of national development.
Leadership and Strategic Direction
Mu’azu Hina, the North East (Zone E) President of NANS, specifically commended the Rector of the institution, Dr. Babale Ibrahim Gashua, for what he described as a reform-driven and visionary leadership approach. Hina noted that under Dr. Gashua’s guidance, the polytechnic has experienced a remarkable transformation that aligns closely with the policy objectives of the Federal Ministry of Education.
This alignment focuses on advancing technical and vocational education, strengthening quality assurance mechanisms, enhancing infrastructure, and promoting the acquisition of globally competitive skills among students.
Support from Key Agencies
The association also acknowledged the crucial roles played by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in supporting the polytechnic’s development. Their contributions through curriculum standardisation, rigorous accreditation processes, staff training initiatives, and infrastructural renewal have been instrumental in elevating the institution’s academic and administrative standing.
NANS emphasised that these collective interventions have not only improved the polytechnic’s reputation but also contributed to broader national goals.
Alignment with National Development Agenda
In a detailed statement, NANS highlighted that the reforms at Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo are consistent with Nigeria’s overarching national development agenda. This includes key areas such as human capital development, youth empowerment, economic diversification, industrial growth, and sustainable national progress. The association views these efforts as vital for fostering a skilled workforce that can drive the country’s future economic and social advancements.
Calls for Enhanced Support and Collaboration
Mu’azu Hina further stressed the need for increased strategic interventions and innovative funding support from major national development institutions. He specifically mentioned the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as critical partners in this endeavour.
According to Hina, sustained investment in infrastructure, research, technology, and capacity building is essential to consolidate the gains achieved from reforms not only at Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo but across polytechnics nationwide.
He also called for strengthened collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Education, TETFund, NBTE, and other relevant agencies. Such partnerships are deemed crucial for achieving the Federal Government’s objectives related to regional stabilisation, skills development, and enhancing the global competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
Overall, NANS’s commendation underscores the positive impact of targeted reforms in technical education and the importance of continued support to ensure long-term success and sustainability.
