Lagos Launches E-Registration for 2026 Universal Basic Education Test
Lagos Opens E-Registration for 2026 Basic Education Test

The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has officially commenced the electronic registration process for the 2026 Universal Basic Education by Continuous Assessment Scores and Placement Test. This marks a significant step in digitising the enrolment for this crucial assessment for primary school leavers in the state.

Key Dates and Financial Guidelines for Registration

The registration window is set to be open for a period of over three months. According to an official circular, the process will run from January 26 to April 30, 2026. The Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Orunsolu Adebayo, issued the directive, outlining distinct procedures for different categories of schools.

A major highlight of the announcement is the difference in cost. Registration for pupils in public primary schools has been declared completely free. In contrast, parents of pupils in approved private schools across Lagos State are required to pay a fee of N5,000 per candidate. This payment is to be processed exclusively through the Lagos State Central Billing System.

Eligibility and Mandatory Requirements for Schools

Mr. Adebayo clarified that participation is strictly reserved for Primary Six pupils in both public and government-approved private schools. To ensure a streamlined and organised process, the Board has made it compulsory for all participating institutions to use a newly issued School Code.

The registrar strongly urged school authorities to strictly adhere to the announced registration timeline. He also emphasised the importance of schools adequately informing parents and guardians about the process and deadlines to ensure no eligible child is left out.

Step-by-Step Registration Process for Schools

The circular provided clear, separate guidelines for public and private schools to follow:

  • Public Primary Schools: Are required to download the Offline Data Capturing Application from the official Lagos State Examinations Board website at https://examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng to complete their pupils' registration.
  • Approved Private Schools: Must access the Board's dedicated portal at https://pay.examboard.com.ng. This portal will be used for both the payment of the N5,000 fee and the subsequent completion of the registration formalities.

Mr. Adebayo assured all stakeholders, including school administrators, parents, and guardians, that the Examinations Board has implemented robust measures to guarantee a smooth, efficient, and hitch-free registration exercise. He reaffirmed the Board's commitment to inclusivity and its mandate to ensure every eligible child in Lagos State is captured for the test.

This move towards a fully digital registration system is expected to reduce paperwork, minimise errors, and create a more transparent and accessible process for the thousands of pupils transitioning from primary to secondary education in Nigeria's most populous state.
