Zamfara Gov Presents Certificates to 50 Stranded Graduates

In a significant move to rectify past neglect, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has officially presented academic certificates to fifty indigenes of the state who graduated from Crescent University, Abeokuta, nine years ago.

Ending a Nine-Year Ordeal for Graduates

The emotional presentation ceremony took place on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Grand Chamber of the Government House in Gusau. According to a detailed statement from the Governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, these scholarship students had completed their studies nearly a decade prior but were abandoned by previous state administrations.

The core issue was the non-payment of their tuition fees by the sponsoring government, which led Crescent University to withhold their results and certificates. The students were left in a professional and academic limbo, unable to prove their qualifications for jobs or further studies.

Lawal's Intervention Clears Outstanding Fees

Upon assuming office, Governor Dauda Lawal's administration reviewed the protracted case. Demonstrating a commitment to justice and educational investment, the state government engaged with the university management and settled all outstanding tuition fees. This decisive action unlocked the release of the certificates.

The cohort of graduates includes high achievers such as a First Class graduate in Chemistry and several others with Second Class Upper division degrees. Governor Lawal, while handing over the documents, reaffirmed that prioritizing education remains a cornerstone of his government's agenda.

Broader Commitment to Development and Empowerment

In a related development showcasing the administration's multi-sectoral approach, Governor Lawal declared that his 'rescue mission' for Zamfara is on course. He made this assertion during an official visit to Shinkafi Local Government Area on Wednesday, January 7.

During the visit, the governor inspected several key projects, including the fully renovated and equipped General Hospital in Shinkafi and ongoing work on a new Referral Hospital. He also launched a large-scale empowerment programme initiated by Honourable Bello Hassan Shinkafi, the member representing Shinkafi/Zurmi Federal Constituency.

The programme benefited 2,000 people with items ranging from luxury cars and tricycles to motorcycles and sewing machines. Governor Lawal emphasized that these projects and initiatives are tangible proofs that the state of emergency declared in critical sectors is yielding positive outcomes for the people of Zamfara.
