FG Launches Inspire Live(s)! Online Classes Amid 1.2m Teacher Shortage
Nigeria launches online classes for schools nationwide

The Federal Government has taken a decisive step to tackle Nigeria's critical shortage of over 1.2 million teachers by launching a nationwide online learning programme for primary and secondary schools.

Addressing the Education Crisis

Education Minister, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has confirmed that the Inspire Live(s)! Online Real-Time Classes Initiative is now being implemented across the country. This groundbreaking programme aims to expand equitable access to quality education through technology-driven solutions.

The initiative, announced on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, directly confronts the persistent shortage of qualified teachers while ensuring uninterrupted learning for students regardless of their location or circumstances.

Current Implementation Status

According to a statement from Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, the programme is currently operational for secondary schools while primary school implementation is pending.

Currently, the Inspire platform streams daily online classes for Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, featuring JSS 1, JSS 2, and SS 2 classes from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The subjects offered include:

  • JSS Subjects: Basic Science, Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Civic Education, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History, and Business Studies
  • SSS Subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing/Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics

National Rollout Strategy

The Ministry has instructed all Commissioners of Education to appoint State Focal Officers to coordinate the programme's activities at the state level. These officers are responsible for:

  • Circulating programme details to all public and private school principals
  • Ensuring designated schools have basic ICT facilities and internet connectivity
  • Overseeing registration completion by school principals through Inspire support channels

All classes are delivered by certified master teachers using Cisco Webex technology, ensuring high-quality, interactive learning experiences for students across Nigeria.

The programme is open to both public and private schools nationwide, representing a significant step toward democratizing access to quality education in Africa's most populous nation.
