Over 10,000 Nigerian Teachers Register for TRCN Professional Qualifying Examination

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has announced that more than 10,000 educators from across the country have successfully registered for the upcoming Professional Qualifying Examination. The examination is scheduled to take place from May 14 to 16, 2026, marking a significant milestone in teacher certification processes nationwide.

Digital Platform Drives Registration Surge

TRCN Registrar and Chief Executive, Ronke Soyombo, revealed the registration figures on Tuesday, attributing the impressive numbers to growing confidence in the council's digital registration portal. According to Soyombo, the increasing user activity on the TRCN digital platform demonstrates its effectiveness in handling teacher registration, licensing, and certification procedures throughout Nigeria.

The digital portal, which was officially launched in September 2025 with support from Education Minister Maruf Alausa, represents a major advancement in the digital transformation of Nigeria's education sector. Soyombo emphasized that the platform has significantly improved access and efficiency in managing teacher registration across the nation.

Addressing Initial Technical Challenges

Responding to earlier complaints about the system, Soyombo explained that initial technical difficulties experienced during the platform's rollout were primarily caused by:

  • Heavy user traffic and increased demand following nationwide implementation
  • Ongoing system upgrades aimed at enhancing performance and security
  • User adaptation issues associated with transitioning from manual to digital processes

The TRCN boss stated, "The initial challenges experienced were largely attributable to high user traffic and increased demand following nationwide rollout, ongoing system upgrades, and user adaptation issues associated with transitioning from manual to digital processes."

Platform Now Fully Functional

Soyombo assured educators that the digital registration portal is now fully operational and running smoothly, with the successful registration of over 10,000 teachers serving as evidence of its reliability. She confirmed, "The TRCN digital registration portal is running smoothly and continues to serve teachers nationwide without interruption."

This milestone, according to the registrar, confirms the system's capacity to support large-scale operations and handle significant volumes of registration activity efficiently.

Exclusive Registration Channel

Soyombo emphasized that the TRCN digital portal remains the sole authorized channel for teacher registration, licensing, and certification in Nigeria. She specifically dismissed claims of third-party involvement, clarifying that the council has not approved any banks or external organizations to sell registration forms.

"Registration is exclusively conducted through the official TRCN portal, ensuring transparency and eliminating fraudulent practices," she stated firmly.

Commitment to Digital Education Transformation

The registrar commended Nigerian teachers for their patience during the transition period and assured that efforts are ongoing to further enhance the platform's capabilities. She reiterated TRCN's commitment to strengthening Nigeria's digital education infrastructure by ensuring a transparent, efficient, and user-friendly process for educators throughout the country.

This development comes as Nigeria continues to advance its digital education initiatives, with the TRCN playing a pivotal role in professionalizing the teaching profession through standardized certification processes and modern technological solutions.
