Rivers State Government Approves Mass Recruitment of 5,000 Teachers to Strengthen Education Sector

The approval was granted during the second meeting of the Rivers State Executive Council in 2026, which was presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The meeting, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, January 27, saw the attendance of Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Nma-Odu and other council members.
Strategic Deployment Plan Unveiled
Following the council meeting, Honor Sirawoo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, briefed journalists on the strategic deployment plan for the newly approved teachers. According to Sirawoo, the recruitment is deliberately targeted at improving educational quality, with a clear distribution strategy.
Three thousand of the approved teachers will be deployed to basic and primary schools, while the remaining two thousand will be assigned to post-primary institutions. This balanced approach ensures that both foundational and secondary education levels receive substantial support.
