Art Teacher in Critical Condition After Violent School Attack
A 60-year-old art teacher is currently fighting for her life in southern France after being stabbed multiple times by a teenage pupil at her educational institution. The shocking incident occurred on Tuesday, February 3, at La Guicharde middle school in Sanary-sur-Mer, located between the cities of Toulon and Marseille.
Details of the Violent Assault
The woman, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, was attacked by a 14-year-old student during school hours. According to local police authorities, the teacher sustained three to four stab wounds, with two injuries to her abdomen and one or two additional wounds to her arm. Witnesses reported that the teenage assailant had been shouting threats at the teacher immediately before launching the violent attack.
Emergency services rushed the critically injured educator to a nearby hospital where she remains in serious condition. The suspected attacker was promptly arrested by law enforcement officials on suspicion of attempted murder. Both the victim and the juvenile suspect have not been officially identified by authorities as investigations continue.

Pattern of School Violence in France
This latest stabbing incident follows several other violent attacks in French schools over recent years. In October 2023, a French literature teacher was fatally stabbed at the Gambetta-Carnot school in Arras, northern France. That attack, which left three other staff members injured, was carried out by Mohammed Mogouchkov, a 20-year-old alleged ISIS supporter who remains in custody awaiting trial.
Three years earlier, teacher Samuel Paty was killed in Éragny, a Paris suburb, after being targeted by an Islamist attacker. The perpetrator, Abdoullakh Abouyezidovich Anzorov, an 18-year-old Russian refugee, was shot dead by police minutes after the attack.
More recently, in September of last year, a 66-year-old music teacher was attacked with a knife at a middle school in Benfeld, eastern France. Additionally, in June, a supervisor at the Françoise Dolto middle school in Nogent, near Paris, died after being stabbed by a student.
Some of these previous attacks have been linked to terrorism by French authorities, while others appear to stem from different motivations. The recurring nature of such violence has created an atmosphere of concern among educators, parents, and students throughout the country.
