Education as a Catalyst for Peace and Progress
Babalola articulated that access to quality and affordable education is essential for fostering peace, prosperity, and progress in Nigeria, Africa, and the world. He highlighted his personal journey, noting that his Standard Six certificate from Emmanuel Primary School in Ado-Ekiti was the highest formal education his parents could afford. However, through correspondence education from Wolsey Hall, Oxford, he overcame these limitations, which he described as a turning point in his life.
Historical Reforms and Achievements
Reflecting on his tenure as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the University of Lagos, Babalola detailed the wide-ranging reform programs he initiated. These efforts have garnered international acclaim and continue to serve as benchmarks in educational excellence. His vision further led to the establishment of ABUAD in 2009, which has since achieved remarkable growth and recognition.
ABUAD's Global Recognition and Future Aspirations
ABUAD has earned numerous national and international accolades, including being ranked 84th globally, 3rd in Africa, and 1st in Nigeria in the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, maintaining this top position from 2022 to 2025. Babalola assured that the university's mission to redefine education in Nigeria is just beginning. He expressed confidence that, with determination, support from Nigerians in the diaspora, and divine grace, Nigeria can achieve world-class educational standards.
Award Ceremony in London
The award was received on Babalola's behalf in London by Vice Chancellor Prof Smeranda Olarinde, with Babalola later addressing the event.
