Panic at Prestigious University Gate as Live Ammunition Spills on Road
Confusion and fear erupted at the main entrance of Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria on Tuesday when multiple rounds of ammunition reportedly fell from a speeding passenger bus along the busy Zaria-Katsina road.
The alarming incident occurred directly in front of the university gate, creating immediate panic among students, motorists, and pedestrians who witnessed the unexpected scene.
Eyewitnesses Describe Chaotic Scene
According to eyewitness accounts, the ammunition scattered across the road after tumbling from a commercial bus heading toward Katsina State. Musa, an eyewitness who spoke about the incident, described how the bus sped away before anyone could properly react.
"We suddenly saw the bullets drop from the bus as it raced past the university gate," Musa explained. "Before people could understand what was happening, the vehicle had already disappeared from sight."
Another student who requested anonymity described the moment as both strange and frightening, expressing concerns shared by many that the ammunition might have been intended for bandits operating in parts of Kaduna and Katsina states.
Security Response and Recovery
Security personnel stationed near the university quickly responded to the situation after being alerted by concerned onlookers who had gathered the scattered ammunition.
Counter-terrorism platform Zagazola Makama reported that security agents successfully recovered all the ammunition, helping to ease tensions around the university entrance. The platform had shared video footage of the incident on social media platform X, showing the confusion that spread immediately after the ammunition spilled.
Despite the swift security response, important questions remain unanswered about the origin and intended destination of the ammunition, raising concerns about security along the Zaria-Katsina corridor.
