Babcock University has rolled out a stringent set of grooming and dress code regulations for its students, just ahead of the institution's forthcoming examinations. The new rules, which take immediate effect, include the outright cancellation of all previously issued hair-pass permits.
Immediate Ban on Hair-Pass Permits
In an official statement released on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, and signed by the Vice President for Student Development, Olanivi Arije, the university management declared all hair-pass documents illegal. These tags, which were once issued as waivers allowing certain hairstyles, no longer grant any legitimate right to keep unapproved looks on campus.
The statement was unequivocal: "the use, circulation, or recognition of hair-pass in any form is henceforth outlawed at Babcock University with immediate effect." Students currently holding any form of exemption were directed to disregard and stop using them immediately.
Specific Grooming and Attire Restrictions
The university provided clear guidelines for both male and female students. For male students, voluminous or unkempt hair, beards, and dreadlocks are now prohibited. Female students have been instructed to avoid extreme, indecent, or inconsistent hairstyles.
The dress code also lists several banned clothing items. These include:
- Body-hugging outfits
- Sleeveless blouses or dresses
- Sagging trousers
- Baggy trousers
- Boot-cut and over-length trousers
Additionally, the management banned outfits like bubu, danshiki, joggers, and sportswear during stipulated academic periods. Tying scarves to official corporate wear was also disallowed at certain times.
Strict Enforcement and Warning to Students
The new regulations are set to be strictly enforced from the beginning of the second semester in January 2026 across all university campuses. The management issued a stern warning, stating that any student found presenting or relying on a defunct hair-pass permit will be investigated and face consequences.
"The University will not entertain excuses, appeals or claims of ignorance. All students are expected to resume fully compliant with these regulations," the statement emphasized. It concluded with a clear directive that possession of any prohibited item on campus will lead to disciplinary action.
This move underscores Babcock University's ongoing commitment to enforcing its institutional policies on student appearance and conduct.
