Baze University VC Adeniyi to Give Inaugural Lecture Today

The Vice-Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja, Professor Abiodun Adeniyi, is set to deliver the university's seventh inaugural lecture today. Professor Adeniyi, a distinguished scholar in mass communication, will present a lecture titled “How Your Village Is Following You: Mobility, Memory and the Mediated Persistence of Belonging.” The event will take place on the university campus in Abuja.

According to a statement from the Chairperson of the Professorial Inaugural Lecture Committee, Bala Muhammad, the lecture is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. It is open to all members of the university community, including staff and students. The inaugural lecture series is a longstanding academic tradition at Baze University, designed to offer professors a platform to share their research, intellectual reflections, and scholarly contributions with both the academic community and the general public.

About the Inaugural Lecturer

Professor Abiodun Adeniyi is a professor of communication and the Vice-Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja. His career spans diverse fields including journalism, academia, consultancy, and public engagement. He earned his bachelor's degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master's degree in International Communications from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, which he pursued under the prestigious Chevening Scholarship. He also completed his doctorate at the University of Leeds, where he served as a Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Communication Studies.

Professor Adeniyi has also worked as a Communications Consultant for the World Bank's Economic Reform and Governance Project at the Bureau of Public Procurement in Abuja. He joined Baze University as a Senior Lecturer in Mass Communication and later served as Head of the Department from 2016 to 2023. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018 and attained the rank of full Professor in 2021. Additionally, he serves as a visiting professor at Kogi State University, Ayingba, and the University of Abuja.

The inaugural lecture promises to offer insightful perspectives on the interplay between mobility, memory, and belonging in contemporary society, drawing from Professor Adeniyi's extensive research and professional experience.
