A 300-level Agriculture student at Bayero University, Kano has become the talk of the campus after driving away with a life-changing prize worth millions of naira.
From Classroom to Car Owner: Ramatu's Big Win
Ramatu Yakubu, a dedicated student in the Faculty of Agriculture at Bayero University Kano (BUK), experienced what many can only dream of when she emerged as the winner of a brand-new car valued at ₦35 million. The remarkable victory occurred during the much-anticipated MTN Pulse Campus Invasion event held at the university premises.
The three-day event, which formed part of MTN Nigeria's flagship youth engagement initiative called "GoMAD on Campus", transformed the university into a vibrant hub of activities designed specifically for Nigerian students.
MTN's Vision for Nigerian Youth Empowerment
According to Femi Adesina, MTN Nigeria's Youth Segment Manager, the campus invasion program represents more than just entertainment. "We are transforming selected universities into centers of music, gaming, skill development, and digital innovation," Adesina explained during the event.
The initiative reflects MTN's strategic investment in youth development across Nigeria's tertiary institutions. "As an organization, we believe strongly in the Nigerian youth. We are not just here to talk to them, but to walk with them, support them, and empower them to be their best selves," Adesina emphasized.
He further elaborated on the company's shifting approach: "We want to move away from being a brand that only talks, to being a brand that acts. That's why we're giving students the opportunity to showcase their products and sell, while also rewarding them with tools to grow."
Campus Celebration and Additional Prizes
Ramatu's car victory served as the climax of a series of competitions and activities that had students buzzing with excitement throughout the three-day event. The atmosphere was electric as fellow students and staff members celebrated her unexpected good fortune.
While Ramatu's win captured the most attention, she wasn't the only student who benefited from the MTN initiative. Several other BUK students received various prizes including:
- Modern laptops
- Tablets
- Smartphones
- Cash gifts
The competition was specifically designed to empower, entertain, and connect Nigerian students through a carefully crafted blend of digital experiences, entrepreneurship opportunities, and live entertainment.
This event at BUK continues a trend of Nigerian students achieving remarkable successes in various competitions. Recently, Emmanuel Aanu Ajayi, a 500-level Electrical and Computer Engineering student at Kwara State University, emerged victorious in the Digital For All Challenge 2.0, taking home an impressive ₦10 million prize after competing against over 15,000 participants.
Similarly, Chizoba Ejiofor, the overall best graduating student from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, secured a prestigious Commonwealth scholarship worth over £33,000 after achieving an exceptional CGPA of 4.98.
These success stories highlight the growing opportunities available to Nigerian students who dare to participate in competitions and showcase their talents, proving that with determination and the right platforms, extraordinary achievements are within reach.
