Lagos recently witnessed an extraordinary celebration of learning and community spirit as Children's International School (CIS) Lekki hosted its much-anticipated Family Fun Day. The event successfully brought together students, parents, and staff members for an unforgettable experience filled with joy, education, and meaningful connections.
Record-Breaking Participation and Festive Atmosphere
The CIS Family Fun Day attracted an impressive over 1,700 participants, creating a vibrant atmosphere at the school grounds. The celebration featured numerous engaging activities that delighted attendees of all ages, including interactive games, creative face painting stations, and captivating musical performances that kept the energy levels high throughout the day.
Among the distinguished guests present were Mrs. Bukola Peters, the Assistant Head of Senior School for Emerging Technologies and Innovation, and Mrs. Julie King, the Head of Senior School. The event also showcased the talented school band 'Unfinished Business', featuring members Olalekan, Dara, Zitara, and Karan, who delivered an outstanding performance that earned them significant recognition.
Emphasis on Resilience and Personal Growth
Principal Stewart King used the platform to deliver an inspiring message about the importance of resilience and risk-taking in personal development. He emphasized that resilience represents a crucial quality for success both in academic settings and on sports fields.
"One of the key issues essential to learning in the classroom and on the sports field is resilience," King stated during his address. "It's the ability to try again if you're not successful the first time." The principal encouraged students to actively set personal challenges and venture beyond their comfort zones to accelerate their growth trajectories.
He further observed that "If you watch these children out there, they are taking risks, and we live in a world which is becoming increasingly risk-averse for our children," highlighting the importance of such events in fostering courage and determination among young learners.
Celebrating Talent and Building Community Spirit
The musical performance by 'Unfinished Business' proved to be a major highlight of the day, with the band's exceptional talent earning them N1 million in recognition of their outstanding performance. This significant achievement demonstrated the school's commitment to nurturing and rewarding student talents across various domains.
Beyond the entertainment and recognition, the event served a deeper purpose of strengthening the school community. Principal King emphasized that the gathering stood as "a testament to the power of community and cooperation," distinguishing CIS from other educational institutions.
"Every school talks about community, but not every school actually has a community where people pool together," he noted, underscoring the genuine sense of belonging that characterizes the CIS educational experience.
The overwhelming positive feedback from participants confirmed the event's success in promoting inclusivity and joy, with many parents and students praising the careful organization and warm atmosphere that made the Family Fun Day a memorable occasion for building lasting relationships within the school community.
