The Gombe State Students' Association (GOSSA) has publicly commended Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya for a major educational expansion in the state. The praise follows the governor's establishment of two new satellite campuses for Gombe State University (GSU).
New Campuses to Ease Pressure, Boost Access
In a press release signed by its President, Alamin Ibrahim Bako, and issued on Saturday, January 3, 2026, GOSSA highlighted the significance of the new campuses located in Malam Sidi, Kwami Local Government Area, and Dukku, Dukku Local Government Area.
The association stated that this move is a significant step towards improving access to tertiary education. According to GOSSA, the new campuses will achieve three key objectives:
- Ease the immense pressure on existing higher institutions in Gombe State.
- Bring university education closer to students in grassroots communities.
- Make learning more accessible and affordable for students across the state.
"We appreciate the establishment of the Malam Sidi and Dukku campuses," the statement read, noting it expands opportunities and reduces the burden on current facilities.
Broader Educational Reforms and Almajiri Integration
Beyond the new campuses, GOSSA also praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya's other educational initiatives. The association specifically mentioned:
- The consistent payment of scholarships to indigent Gombe students nationwide.
- The establishment of modern model schools across the state.
- The payment of SSCE examination fees for secondary school students.
GOSSA described these policies as meaningful interventions that ease financial pressure on parents and help improve school retention and completion rates.
Furthermore, the student body hailed the state government's commitment to reforming the Almajiri system. They endorsed the inclusive programmes that integrate formal education with moral and vocational training for the children.
"This comprehensive approach can help transform the Almajiri system," GOSSA said, emphasizing its potential to equip children with holistic education, break the cycle of poverty and begging, and foster a more skilled and harmonious society.
Governor's Compassionate Gesture to Bereaved Media Families
In a separate but related show of leadership, Governor Inuwa Yahaya has extended support to families struck by tragedy. The governor donated the sum of Fourteen Million Naira (N14,000,000) to the families of seven journalists and media workers who lost their lives in a fatal road accident.
The tragic crash occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Billiri-Kumo Road as the journalists were returning from a colleague's wedding in Kaltungo Local Government Area.
Each of the seven bereaved families received Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) in financial support. The Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, presented the cash to the families on Friday on behalf of the governor.
Njodi stated that the intervention was part of Governor Yahaya's commitment to cushioning the painful impact of the loss on the affected families. He also disclosed that initial support had been provided to the families of the injured immediately after the incident, and that the governor has taken full responsibility for all medical treatment and hospital bills for the survivors.
