Lagos State University (LASU) has officially welcomed a fresh cohort of 14,893 undergraduate students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The matriculation ceremony, held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the institution's main campus in Ojo, was a significant milestone for the new intakes who emerged successful from a highly competitive application pool.
Vice-Chancellor's Firm Caution on Campus Conduct
Addressing the newly admitted students, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, delivered a strong message on discipline and focus. She congratulated the students and their families but immediately set clear boundaries regarding expected conduct. Prof Bello emphasized that LASU operates with a zero-tolerance policy towards several social vices that could derail academic pursuits.
The university head specifically warned the fresh students to steer clear of cultism, hooliganism, and examination malpractice. She stated that anyone found engaging in such acts, alongside other offences like corruption or indecent dressing, would face the full weight of the university's disciplinary procedures. Prof Bello urged the students to avoid irresponsible associations and any behaviour capable of tarnishing their academic journey.
Reiterated Stance on Safety and Gender-Based Violence
Beyond academic misconduct, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the institution's unwavering stance against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). She informed the students about the existence of the Directorate of Response and Prevention of Sexual and Gender Based Violence, a dedicated office established to provide support for victims.
Prof Bello encouraged any student who experiences harassment or assault to speak up and report immediately, assuring them that management would take prompt action. She also highlighted that adequate security measures are in place across the campus and urged students to report any suspicious activities to bolster safety for all.
A Call for Integrity and Future Leadership
Describing the new students as fortunate, having been selected from over 70,000 applicants who chose LASU as their first choice in the 2025 UTME, the VC charged them to make productive use of the opportunity. She reminded them that LASU is a student-centred institution committed to nurturing leadership, character, and academic excellence.
The ultimate goal, according to Prof Bello, is to produce graduates who will contribute meaningfully to national and global development. She urged the 14,893 fresh students to begin their academic journey with discipline, commitment, and the right values, keeping their eyes firmly on their educational goals.
The ceremony served as both a welcome and a firm orientation, setting the tone for a campus environment built on respect, integrity, and zero tolerance for deviant behaviour.
