Graduate Dies Day After Celebrating Convocation
Oluwatomisin Ishola, a 28-year-old graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), died less than 24 hours after receiving his degree, turning a celebration into tragedy. He graduated on April 22 and collapsed at a football field the following day.
Sister Recalls Normal Day Before Tragedy
His younger sister, Olayinka Ishola, told Punch that the convocation was a joyful event attended by family. He seemed healthy, only slightly tired. After the ceremony, the family ate together and spent the evening at home. The next morning, Oluwatomisin left to play football, asking his sister to prepare beans for his return.
Collapse Before Match Started
Hours later, relatives grew worried when calls went unanswered and reports of his death surfaced online. The family initially dismissed them, but social media posts with his photo confirmed the news. According to those at the field, Oluwatomisin became weak and collapsed before the match began. Efforts to revive him failed.
Possible Cardiac Arrest, Says Doctor Relative
The exact cause of death is unknown, but a relative who is a medical doctor suggested cardiac arrest. Olayinka said her brother had no history of serious illness and was considered healthy and active.
Dreams Cut Short After Years of Struggle
Oluwatomisin spent four years seeking admission before entering LAUTECH. He faced academic challenges but persevered. He supported himself by repairing phones and was planning a phone accessories business valued at about N2 million. He also had football ambitions and was exploring opportunities abroad.
Family Devastated by Sudden Loss
His death, just one day after achieving a long-sought milestone, has left his family grieving and searching for answers. The community mourns a young man whose future was cut short.
