LAUTECH Suspends Academic Activities for 2 Weeks After Student's Tragic Death
LAUTECH suspends academic activities after student death

The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso has taken the decisive step of suspending all academic activities at its Iseyin campus for a period of two weeks. This emergency measure comes in response to the tragic death of a student from the institution.

Immediate Suspension Following Tragic Incident

According to official confirmation from the university spokesperson, Olayinka O. Balogun, the suspension took effect immediately following the unfortunate incident. The decision affects all students enrolled at the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources located at the Iseyin campus.

The university management explained that the two-week break was necessary to allow the campus community to grieve and process the emotional impact of losing one of their own. The deceased has been identified as a 200-level student from the Department of Agricultural Economics who lost his life after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin.

Academic Calendar Adjustments

In her statement to the press on Friday, November 7, 2025, Balogun clarified that academic activities are scheduled to resume on Monday, November 24, 2025. While students are expected to return to their classrooms on that date, essential staff members will receive separate instructions regarding their duties during the suspension period.

The university management used the opportunity to extend their condolences to the family of the deceased student and urged the entire student body to prioritize their safety while supporting each other during this difficult period. They also encouraged students to honor the memory of their departed colleague.

Historical Context of Campus Safety

This recent tragedy echoes another unfortunate incident that occurred at LAUTECH on Thursday night, May 9, 2024, when suspected cultists stabbed another 200-level student, Adedokun Olamilekan, to death during an argument. That previous incident had also raised concerns about campus security and student safety.

The current suspension decision demonstrates the university administration's commitment to addressing the psychological well-being of its students and staff following traumatic events on campus.
