PTDF Reaffirms Merit and Transparency Amid Massive Scholarship Applications
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has strongly reiterated its unwavering commitment to merit, transparency, and national development. This declaration came as the fund conducted intensive interviews for its highly sought-after Overseas Scholarship Scheme in Ibadan, witnessing unprecedented interest from applicants across Nigeria.
Federal Character Commission Ensures Equity in Selection Process
At the South-West screening center in Ibadan, officials from the Federal Character Commission were present to meticulously monitor the entire process. They emphasized that the exercise strictly aligns with constitutional provisions regarding equity and fairness in public opportunities. Abdulwasiu Bawa-Allah, the Federal Commissioner representing Lagos State, stated that the Commission's active presence was crucial to ensure no candidate faced any disadvantage during the selection process.
Bawa-Allah explained that the scholarship interviews, being conducted simultaneously across all of Nigeria's geopolitical zones, reflect a deliberate and structured effort to guarantee nationwide inclusiveness. He firmly dismissed any insinuations of political interference, highlighting that the multi-layered screening system—comprising initial application, automated shortlisting, and rigorous panel interviews—was specifically designed to uphold merit above all other considerations.
Overwhelming Applicant Numbers and Selection Statistics
The commissioner disclosed that approximately 38,000 applications were received nationwide for the prestigious scholarship program. From this massive pool, just over 6,000 candidates were successfully shortlisted for further consideration. At the Ibadan center alone, 296 applicants were undergoing comprehensive interviews as part of the final selection phase.
Federal Government Launches Second Phase of TVET Programme
In a related development, the Federal Government has officially announced the commencement of applications for the second cohort of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. This initiative aims to significantly boost skills acquisition and employment opportunities across the country.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, revealed this important update through a post on his official X handle. He described the TVET programme as a key component of the administration's comprehensive human capital development drive. Alausa noted that the programme generated remarkable interest during its first phase, with over 1.3 million applications received nationwide.
"Last year, over 1.3 million Nigerians applied, a powerful reminder of the growing demand for practical skills and the substantial impact they can have on people's lives and our economy," the Minister emphasized.
Alausa confirmed that the application portal would open at 04:00 p.m. (West Africa Time) and strongly urged Nigerians across all age groups to take full advantage of this valuable opportunity for skills development and career advancement.
