Senator Sani Musa Briefs 50 Russian Scholarship Beneficiaries and Unveils Domestic Scheme in Niger

Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District, has conducted a pre-departure briefing for 50 beneficiaries of the 2026 Russian scholarship programme and introduced the first batch of his domestic scholarship initiative. The event took place on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in Minna, where Senator Musa emphasized the importance of focus, commitment, and using acquired knowledge for societal advancement.

Commitment to Educational Excellence

Senator Musa highlighted that the scholarship programme is founded on the principle that access to quality education should be a universal right, not a privilege, irrespective of religion or political affiliation. He urged the beneficiaries to excel academically and uphold strong character and integrity, stating, "We are investing in the future of our young minds who will become leaders of tomorrow. This opportunity is a call to excellence and service."

Financial Support and Expansion

Beneficiaries of the foreign scholarship will receive a monthly stipend of 100 dollars. Additionally, Senator Musa announced an expansion of his domestic scheme to cover examination fees for students in his constituency taking NECO, WAEC, and JAMB. Medical students under the programme will receive N300,000, while other undergraduates will get between N100,000 and N200,000. He commended the scholarship committee for ensuring transparency in the selection process, which he described as crucial for the initiative's sustainability.

Political and Governmental Support

Senator Musa called on political stakeholders to maintain peace and mutual respect as the political season approaches, stressing that democracy relies on rule adherence and collective responsibility. He acknowledged the support of Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, noting that the state government's enabling environment was vital for the initiative's success.

Representing the governor, Commissioner for Justice Barrister Nasir Mu'azu stated that the programme aligns with the New Niger Agenda and reflects the senator's dedication to education. "The senator is giving back to society what it has given him," he said, pledging continued government support.

Impact and Beneficiary Details

Dr. Ibrahim Balarabe, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, reported that 100 students sponsored to India are progressing well, and 50 students in China studying medicine and surgery are preparing to contribute to healthcare. Each beneficiary has received N500,000 in support. The beneficiaries hail from nine local government areas—Rafi, Suleja, Munya, Shiroro, Chanchaga, Gurara, Paikoro, Tafa, and Bosso—within the senator's constituency, with students from other zones also benefiting.

In goodwill messages, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Zubairu Dada and Niger State House of Assembly member Umar Nasir Paiko advised beneficiaries to remain disciplined, avoid negative influences, and represent the state and country positively. On behalf of the beneficiaries, Ibrahim Abdullahi Gurumana expressed gratitude and pledged to be good ambassadors.

The event concluded with the presentation of customised ATM cards loaded with N100,000 to some domestic scholarship beneficiaries, underscoring the tangible support provided by the initiative.
