The University of Ibadan has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Astria Learning to establish the UI eCampus, a fully integrated digital campus that will deliver the University’s accredited postgraduate programmes to learners across Nigeria, Africa, and the diaspora. The agreement, signed on May 13, 2026, covers the academic framework, commercial terms, and operational rollout of the partnership. It formalises a collaboration that began earlier this year, when a senior University of Ibadan delegation led by the Vice-Chancellor visited Astria Learning’s operations in Malawi to benchmark the University of Malawi eCampus. The signing marks the transition from exploration to execution.
Building on a Tradition of Firsts
Established in 1948, the University of Ibadan is Nigeria’s oldest university and one of Africa’s foremost centres of teaching and research. With more than 50,000 students across 17 faculties and over 140 academic departments, UI has shaped generations of scholars, leaders, and professionals across the continent. Under the MOA, the UI eCampus will extend the University’s academic programmes into a structured digital environment. Astria Learning will provide the platform, technical infrastructure, capacity-building tools, and operational support. UI retains full academic authority, faculty oversight, and responsibility for quality assurance. Every programme delivered through the eCampus will be the same accredited UI postgraduate degree offered on campus, taught by UI faculty and governed by UI’s existing academic policies. The first phase of the eCampus will focus on postgraduate diploma and master’s degree programmes in disciplines with strong demand for flexible learning, including Business Administration, Education, and Information Technology. Additional programmes will follow as the platform scales.
The UI eCampus Platform
The UI eCampus will run on Astria Learning’s education technology stack, including an AI-enabled learning management system with retention analytics, a 24/7 academic help desk, and the Astria Digital Library, which provides searchable access to over 170,000 academic resources with offline functionality for learners with limited connectivity. Online assessments will be delivered through identity-verified proctoring to maintain the integrity of the UI credential.
Quotes
“This partnership marks a bold leap into the future of education for the University of Ibadan. The UI eCampus will be a centre of excellence without walls, true to our motto, Recte Sapere Fons. It is designed for working professionals, international students, and qualified graduates who, because of work, location, or other commitments, cannot pursue full-time residential study but deserve access to a University of Ibadan degree. This is a strategic expansion of our mission, not a replacement of our tradition.” — Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, mni, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan
“The University of Ibadan has trained Nigerian leaders since 1948 from a single campus in Ibadan. The next generation of working professionals, mid-career managers, and diaspora Nigerians cannot all come to Ibadan to study. The UI eCampus brings the University to them, with the same faculty, the same standards, and the same degree. Our job is to make the infrastructure invisible so the academics can lead.” — Dr. Jeff Bordes, Chief Executive Officer, Astria Learning
A Flagship Nigerian Partnership
The UI eCampus is the anchor partnership in Astria Learning’s Nigerian portfolio, reflecting the scale of demand for flexible higher education in Africa’s most populous country. Through the partnership, UI will expand postgraduate access for working professionals, grow enrolment capacity without large-scale physical expansion, and extend the University’s reach to learners across Nigeria, the wider African continent, and the diaspora. The first cohort under the UI eCampus model is scheduled to begin in August 2027. Admission requirements, programme listings, tuition, and the registration portal will be announced through the University’s official website and the dedicated eCampus portal in the coming months.
