University of Ibadan Engineering Graduate Achieves First-Class Honors with Nine Major Awards
A University of Ibadan engineering graduate has become an inspiration to many after sharing his remarkable academic journey from a tense admission moment to achieving First-Class honors with multiple awards. Mofifoluwa Ajani, who studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering, recently reflected on his ten academic and leadership milestones achieved during his time at the prestigious institution.
From Family of Engineers to Academic Excellence
Ajani grew up in a family where engineering was already established as a tradition, with both of his older brothers having studied the field. However, his path to admission was far from guaranteed. He revealed that his entrance score was exactly at the departmental cut-off mark required for the Electrical and Electronic Engineering program, creating a tense admission situation that could have derailed his aspirations before they even began.
"Instead of discouraging me, that moment became a challenge," Ajani shared on his LinkedIn profile. "Right from my 100 level, I made a promise to myself: I would graduate with a First Class. It was not easy but by God's grace and with persistence, the goal I set in my first year eventually became reality."
Academic and Leadership Achievements
The determined graduate went on to compile an impressive list of accomplishments during his time at the University of Ibadan. His academic achievements include:
- First Class Honors in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Dean's Honour Roll recognition four separate times
- Highest score in Industrial Utilization of Electrical Power
- Departmental award as a First Class graduate
Beyond academics, Ajani demonstrated exceptional leadership through various roles:
- Member of Sultan Bello Hall House of Assembly (2022/2023)
- Member of Students' Union Representative Council (2023/2024)
- Member of Technology and Engineering Students' Association Representative Council
- Co-Chairman of TESA Week 2025
- Chairman of TESA Industrial Visit Committee 2025
- Commissioner of University of Ibadan Students' Union Electoral Commission (2024/2025)
Professional Recognition and Future Prospects
On February 25, 2026, Ajani achieved another significant milestone when he was formally inducted as a Graduate Member of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Society of Environmental Engineers. This professional recognition marks his official entry into the engineering profession and validates his years of dedicated study and preparation.
During his service with the University of Ibadan Students' Union Electoral Commission, Ajani received a Letter of Commendation from Vice Chancellor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale for his exemplary service. Additionally, the Technology and Engineering Students' Association recognized him as the Most Versatile Finalist, an honor that acknowledges his balanced contributions across academics, leadership, and service.
"Milestones like this often make you pause and reflect on the journey — where it began, the challenges along the way, and the people who shaped the path," Ajani reflected in his LinkedIn post. His story serves as a powerful testament to how perseverance and determination can transform initial challenges into remarkable achievements.
The University of Ibadan continues to produce exceptional graduates who make significant contributions to Nigeria's engineering sector and beyond. Ajani's journey from barely meeting admission requirements to graduating with First-Class honors and multiple awards demonstrates that academic success often depends more on persistence and dedication than on initial advantages.
