University of Ibadan Graduate Who Failed JAMB Twice Celebrates Second Class Upper Degree

A graduate from the prestigious University of Ibadan (UI) has captured widespread attention online after sharing his remarkable academic journey, which included failing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) exams twice before eventually securing admission.

From Academic Struggles to University Success

The individual, identified as @27kulture on social media, revealed in a viral post that the University of Ibadan was not his first or second choice institution during his application process. He originally aspired to attend the University of Lagos but was ultimately admitted to UI after multiple attempts at the entrance examinations.

"I wrote UTME and Post-UTME two times. Omo, I performed poorly, chai, the Post-UTME get as e be. Well, those late-night tutorial classes totally paid off eventually," he shared in his post, highlighting the perseverance that eventually led to his admission in 2019.

Navigating Academic Challenges at University

Once admitted, the graduate faced additional obstacles that extended his four-year Geography program to six years. His university experience was marked by two significant Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strikes and the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the institution to conduct an online matriculation ceremony.

"We spent 6 years in school for a 4-year course. It could've been longer, but I'm glad I'm out mannn," he wrote, reflecting on the extended duration of his studies due to these external factors.

Academic Performance Journey

The graduate detailed his fluctuating academic performance throughout his university years. He began strongly with first-class grades during his freshman year but experienced a gradual decline in subsequent years.

Despite these challenges, he successfully graduated with a Second Class Upper division in Geography, expressing pride in his accomplishment after the difficult journey.

"All in all, I graduated from the prestigious University of Ibadan with a Second Class Upper in Geography. Me, myself, I'm proud of it!" he declared in his viral social media post.

Inspiring Message to Fellow Students

The graduate's story has resonated with many Nigerian students and young people who face similar academic challenges. His experience demonstrates that initial setbacks in entrance examinations do not determine ultimate academic success.

He credited his perseverance, late-night study sessions, and the support system he found at the University of Ibadan for helping him complete his degree despite the obstacles encountered along the way.

The viral post has sparked conversations about educational resilience and the value of persistence in achieving academic goals, particularly within Nigeria's competitive higher education landscape.
