Uniben Graduate Narrates Her 5-Year Physiotherapy Journey

A young Nigerian lady, Tobechukwu Ahmed, has shared her inspiring academic journey as she graduated from the University of Benin with a degree in physiotherapy. She recounted her five-year experience, from the moment she gained admission to the day she became a certified physiotherapist.

Surprise Admission and Early Days

Ahmed, known as @kingtobeahmed on TikTok, revealed that she could not believe it when she saw her admission status. She recalled how her best friend refreshed the JAMB CAPS portal daily until the admission letter appeared. 'I can clearly remember her squealing in excitement, and me shouting “it’s a lieeee!”' Ahmed said. She entered the university as a typical fresher, fascinated by everything, unaware of the challenges ahead.

Year-by-Year Experience

In her first year (100 level), Ahmed enjoyed running to chemistry, physics, and AEB labs. By 200 level, she dragged her feet to anatomy and physiology labs and battled with MCQ exams, while also falling in love with politics and extracurricular activities. In 300 level, she faced viva and steeplechase exams, clinical reasoning, and her first clinical posting. By 400 level, she described herself as 'in a pool by the ocean, carefully learning to swim,' with postings becoming more work than fun. Her first clinical exam was scary, but she maintained composure. Finally, in 500 level, she pushed through while enjoying her last moments as a student, spending time with friends and colleagues.

Overcoming Challenges

Ahmed emphasized that every challenge she faced was worth it. 'I cannot begin to explain every challenge I faced within all those levels, but one thing I know is that I OVERCAME. Now, I’m a certified physiotherapist and I’m proud and loud about it!' she declared.

The video of her story triggered reactions on social media, with many congratulating her. In a related story, UNILAG's best graduating student shared how he was rejected by the University of Ibadan, while another graduate staged a one-man protest over unemployment.
