UNICAL's First Female SUG President Achieves First-Class Honors in Peace Studies
Blessing Alims Iripia, who made history as the first female Students' Union Government (SUG) president at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), has graduated with a first-class honors degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution. Her remarkable academic achievement was celebrated during UNICAL's 38th Convocation Ceremony held on Friday, April 10, at the Abraham Ordia Stadium, where she was recognized as the overall Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
A Journey of Perseverance and Hard Work

Before her university journey, she worked as a shoemaker and fashion designer at the Cross River Garment Factory while volunteering for a foundation. Her determination and resilience paved the way for her academic success, culminating in her finishing as the sixth overall best graduating student at the university.

- Improving campus transportation by introducing five mini buses.
- Awarding ₦1,000,000 to the best graduating student.
- Sponsoring 50 students through the SUG President Scholarship program.
- Securing a solar-powered borehole to enhance water access in hostels.
- Championing advocacy efforts that led to the university's first Gender Policy.
Additionally, Blessing received three fully sponsored international opportunities, with two being successful, and applied for various leadership and capacity-building fellowships, further showcasing her commitment to personal and professional growth.
