UNIMED Appoints Two New Deputy Vice-Chancellors

The Senate of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, has officially appointed two new Deputy Vice-Chancellors for the institution. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the university's Public Relations Officer, Isaac Oluyi.

New Appointments Announced

According to the statement, Professor Patrick Osho has been appointed as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration and Clinical Sciences, while Professor Oyetunde Oyeyemi has been named Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics. These appointments are expected to strengthen the university's leadership and academic framework.

Vice-Chancellor's Confidence

The Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, expressed strong confidence in the newly appointed officers. She stated that both professors would contribute immensely to the growth, research development, and academic advancement of the institution. Their extensive experience and dedication are seen as key assets for the university's future.

Profiles of the Appointees

Professor Patrick Osho, prior to his appointment, served as the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences at UNIMED and as Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (Diagnostics) at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital. He is a distinguished medical practitioner and administrator with vast experience in healthcare management, public health, and clinical services. He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association, Medical and Dental Consultants' Association of Nigeria, Association of Pathologists of Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, American Society of Haematology, and the Technical Working Group on HIV/Tuberculosis.

Over the years, Osho has held numerous strategic positions, such as Head of the Pathology Department at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure; Deputy Director of Diagnostic Services for the Ondo State Hospital Management Board; Deputy Director of Public Health; State AIDS Programme Coordinator at the Ondo State Ministry of Health; State Coordinator of the Ondo State Blood Transfusion Services; and Coordinator of the Haemophilia Programme.

Professor Oyetunde Oyeyemi, the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics, is renowned for his contributions to parasitology, neglected tropical diseases, and translational biomedical research. He is widely regarded as an accomplished scholar and administrator with strong international research collaborations and a commitment to scientific innovation. He has held several key administrative roles within the university, including acting head of department, chairman of departmental and faculty research and development committees, chairman of the faculty postgraduate curriculum committee, sub-dean of the faculty of science postgraduate school, deputy director of the central office for research and development, and later director of the office.
