A recent Nigerian Law School graduate, Ndukwu Chibundom Kaosisochukwu, has opened up about her academic journey, achieving a double first class. She graduated with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.84 from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) and also bagged a first class from the Nigerian Law School.
Choosing Law Over English Literature
Chibundom, who grew up in Anambra State, initially dreamed of studying English Literature. However, she was convinced by family to pursue law, a decision she now appreciates. She wrote the UTME once and gained admission with a score of 280.
Experience at UNIZIK
Her time at UNIZIK was both wonderful and stressful. During the COVID break, she read books on productivity and academic excellence, which transformed her approach. She moved into school to fully engage in activities, took academics seriously, led organizations, and won essay competitions. Challenges included light and water issues in hostels and occasional health problems.
Law School Journey
Chibundom attended the Yenagoa Campus of the Nigerian Law School. Unlike UNIZIK, she participated in fewer extracurricular activities due to the tight schedule and voluminous material. She relied on typed notes, spaced repetition, active recall with Anki flashcards, and reading groups. She joined the Law School Paddi app for weekly MCQ challenges and reviewed materials 3 to 5 times before exams.
Future Plans
She currently works as a trainee associate at Aluko & Oyebode, a Tier 1 law firm. She intends to pursue a master's degree at an Ivy League university, preferably Oxford or Harvard, and also pursue her interest in writing with certifications. She is open to international opportunities but not yet certain about permanent relocation.
