VC Hails Igbinedion's Vision, Dedication to Education

The Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, on Saturday praised the university's founder for his foresight, courage, and dedication to establishing Nigeria's first private university. Speaking at the university's 27th Founders Day ceremony and lecture, Prof. Ezemonye highlighted the founder's initiative that transformed the institution into one of Nigeria's most respected private universities, known for fostering knowledge, leadership, and excellence.

Founders Day Celebration

The event, themed "Keeping the University Dream in a Fragile Ecosystem," was delivered by Dr. Sam Ikoku. Prof. Ezemonye remarked, "Founders Day offers us an opportunity not only to celebrate our achievements but also to reflect on the vision, sacrifices and determination that laid the foundation of this great institution." He noted that Igbinedion University started when private universities were nonexistent in Nigeria and described its success as a pathfinder for the country's private university sector, which now includes over 160 institutions.

Gratitude to University Community

The vice-chancellor expressed gratitude to the university's leadership and community for their contributions to the institution's growth. He thanked Deputy Chancellor and former Edo State Governor Chief Lucky Igbinedion, Chairman of the Governing Council Prof. Ahmed Tijani Mora, council members, management, staff, alumni, and students. The ceremony was attended by Chief Lucky Igbinedion and Dr. Sam Ikoku, chairman and CEO of Sam Ikoku Group.

Prof. Ezemonye emphasized that the university's journey from its founding to its current status as a leading private university in Nigeria is a testament to the founder's vision and the collective efforts of the university community.
