In a significant move toward academic excellence, Umaru Musa Yar'adua University (UMYU) in Katsina has announced the promotion of 19 academic staff to the prestigious rank of professors. This development marks one of the largest academic advancement exercises in the institution's recent history.
Major Academic Promotions Approved
The university's Governing Council gave its approval during its 56th meeting held on November 27, according to an official statement released by Hajiya Nabila Dahiru-Anche, Assistant Chief Information and Protocol Officer. The promotions are effective from October 1, covering a total of 113 academic staff members across various ranks.
The breakdown reveals that 19 academics achieved the highest rank of Professors, while 20 were elevated to Readers. Additionally, 31 staff members became Senior Lecturers, 17 advanced to Lecturer I, and 26 reached Lecturer II positions. Beyond these promotions, 36 staff members were converted to various cadres and upgraded to higher ranks.

The meeting also welcomed the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor of the university, Senator Hadi Abubakar-Sirika, who immediately declared his commitment to working diligently toward uplifting the institution. During the session, Senator Abubakar-Sirika met with the leadership of all four In-House Unions of the university, pledging loyalty, support and cooperation in working together as critical stakeholders for the institution's progress.
In a notable decision benefiting support staff, the council approved a 100 percent upward review of wages for University Cleaners, demonstrating the institution's commitment to improving working conditions across all employment levels.
