FG Commences ₦22,500 Monthly Stipend for Over 42,000 TVET Trainees
FG Pays ₦22,500 Stipend to 42,000 TVET Trainees

The Federal Government has officially begun disbursing monthly financial support to thousands of young Nigerians enrolled in its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. This significant move marks a pivotal step in the administration's push to equip youths with practical, income-generating skills.

First Tranche of Payments Reaches Trainees and Centres

In a major development announced on Thursday, December 4, 2025, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, confirmed that the first round of direct payments is now underway. According to the minister's statement released via social media platform X, over 42,000 fully registered trainees across the nation have received their inaugural monthly stipend of ₦22,500.

This stipend is designed to cover upkeep and transportation costs, removing a key financial barrier that often hinders consistent participation in skills acquisition programmes. The timely payment is expected to sustain student engagement and ensure regular attendance at training sessions nationwide.

Furthermore, the government's financial commitment extends beyond the trainees. More than 600 independent and accredited training centres have also received payments for the skills instruction they provide. This dual-channel funding is crucial for maintaining the quality and continuity of the training offered under the TVET initiative.

Tinubu's Directive Accelerates Implementation

Minister Alausa attributed the swift rollout of these payments to a direct directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The president has consistently emphasised youth empowerment through practical skills acquisition as a cornerstone of his administration's economic strategy.

"This is just the first tranche, with more to follow, and it reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to investing in young Nigerians through practical, job-creating skills," Alausa stated. He described the rapid disbursement as an execution of the president's order to equip youth with the skills necessary to drive employment, entrepreneurship, and broader economic growth.

A Key Milestone for the Renewed Hope Agenda

The TVET initiative, launched in May 2025, has progressed rapidly from the initial registration phase to hands-on, practical training. The commencement of stipend payments represents a tangible implementation milestone that underscores the government's seriousness about its youth development promises.

Minister Alausa framed the entire programme as a clear demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda in action. It is strategically designed to move young Nigerians from theoretical learning to possessing market-relevant skills that can lead to immediate employment or business creation.

The Federal Government has assured that subsequent payment tranches will follow as more beneficiaries complete their registration and fulfil ongoing training requirements. This initiative signals a sustained investment in building a skilled Nigerian workforce for the future.
