The Federal Government has officially begun disbursing the first set of financial support to students under its ambitious Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme.
Stipends and Centre Funding Roll Out
In a significant move, over 42,000 students across the country have now received their inaugural monthly stipend of N22,500. This payment is specifically designed to assist with transportation costs and basic upkeep, removing a key financial barrier to consistent attendance and learning.
Concurrently, the government has also credited funds to more than 600 independent technical and vocational training centres nationwide. This direct funding is intended to support the instructional and hands-on training they provide, ensuring the scheme's quality and long-term sustainability.
Administration's Commitment to Youth Empowerment
The rollout of this first tranche of TVET payments was confirmed in a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo. She stated that this action underscores the administration's firm commitment to the programme, with subsequent payments scheduled for the coming phases.
The statement featured remarks from the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who linked the swift commencement of payments directly to President Bola Tinubu's vision. "The rapid commencement of payments under the TVET Initiative is a clear execution of the President’s directive to invest aggressively in our young people," Dr. Alausa said.
From Potential to Productivity
Dr. Alausa elaborated on the broader economic goal, noting, "President Tinubu believes that equipping our youth with in-demand, practical skills is the fastest way to drive job creation, entrepreneurship, and national economic growth." He emphasized that this philosophy is at the core of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on transforming the nation's youthful potential into tangible productivity.
The Ministry highlighted that the timely release of these funds is critical for maintaining the programme's current momentum. Since its launch in May 2025, the TVET initiative has rapidly advanced from the initial registration phase to active, hands-on training, with enrolled students already deeply engaged in their intensive vocational programmes.
