The Lagos State Government has unveiled an ambitious plan to boost youth creativity and employment prospects through a comprehensive, free training programme in the entertainment sector.
Empowering the Next Generation of Creatives
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration, through the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, is partnering with Dreams Music Hall to deliver EKO Studio Culture, a two-month intensive masterclass designed specifically for young Lagosians. This initiative forms a key part of the state's Detty December festivities, transforming the seasonal celebration into an opportunity for skill development and economic empowerment.
The programme offers hands-on training across multiple creative disciplines including music production, sound engineering, movie scoring, sound design, and camera handling. Notably, it also includes specialized DJing classes for female participants and crucial education about the music business.
Strategic Alignment and Expert Mentorship
Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, expressed strong enthusiasm for the project, describing it as both impactful and transformative. He emphasized that the training directly supports Governor Sanwo-Olu's THEMES Plus Agenda, particularly its focus on sustainable job creation, innovation, and youth development.
This initiative will connect participants with top music producers and entertainment industry experts who will provide professional mentorship throughout the practical training sessions. The commissioner highlighted that the programme complements other successful Ministry initiatives like the StartRight Lagos Entrepreneurship Programme and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
Application Process and Talent Showcase
Eligible youth aged 18 to 35 years can register for free through the official portal at http://tinyurl.com/eko-studio until November 25, 2025. Successful applicants will get the chance to demonstrate their abilities during a grand audition scheduled for December 10 at the Ikorodu Town Hall.
This audition will feature prominent celebrities from Nigeria's music and film industries as judges, selecting the most promising talents for the comprehensive training programme. The state government aims to directly create pathways to employment within Lagos's rapidly expanding creative economy through this strategic intervention.
