The inaugural edition of Anatomy of an Actor, a multidisciplinary experience designed to explore the craft, realities, and evolving expectations of actors across theatre and screen, was successfully held at Alliance Française Lagos. The event attracted an audience of about 100 actors and industry enthusiasts.
Interactive Stage-Play and Workshops
The event featured an interactive stage-play led by Bolu Essien, Imoh Eboh, and Omololu Sodiya, which delved into what actors experience from audition to the elevated expectations of being cast, and the likelihood of their dreams coming true as an actor. The play was written by Bolu Essien and directed by veteran theatre director Makinde Adeniran, fta (President of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners – NANTAP).
Convened by Nigerian actor, writer, and producer Bolu Essien, the event brought together respected stakeholders across the Nigerian creative industry, including award-winning actors, writers, directors, producers, and theatre practitioners, for a series of insightful panel conversations, performance sessions, and practical workshops focused on the art of acting.
Audition Lab and Improv Sessions
The experience also included an audition lab, improv workshops, and panel discussions examining performances, preparation, storytelling, professionalism, identity, and longevity within the acting profession. Furthermore, the event created a rare opportunity for emerging and established actors to engage directly with industry professionals across both stage and screen.
Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Bolu Essien said that Anatomy of an Actor was created to provide actors with a more intentional space for learning, reflection, and artistic development beyond auditions and production sets.
Notable Industry Figures
The event featured contributions from notable theatre and screen professionals, including veteran actress and keynote speaker Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, alongside respected industry figures such as Bimbo Akintola, Toyin Oshinaike, Brenda Fashugba, Judith Audu, Linda Ejiofor, Blessing Nze Obasi, Ifeanyi Barbara Chidi, Josh Olaoluwa, and Makinde Adeniran, fta, among others.
