Seinde Arogbofa, a former secretary of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation Afenifere, has been formally inducted into the Hall of Fame and invested as a Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). This prestigious recognition honors his extensive literary contributions and decades of dedicated service to public life, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished career.

Dual Honors Conferred During Birthday Festivities

The induction ceremony took place during Arogbofa's 87th birthday celebration, held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) over the weekend. The event also featured the presentation of two books: Understanding Afenifere: A Journey through the Yoruba Leadership Organisation, authored by Arogbofa himself, and Seinde Arogbofa: A Quintessential Role Model, co-authored by Prof. W. Aderounmu and Jare Ajayi. These publications highlight his intellectual legacy and role as a mentor in Nigerian society.

Governor Aiyedatiwa Praises Arogbofa's Intellectual Depth

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa lauded Arogbofa as a towering figure whose life exemplifies intellectual depth, moral authority, and enduring relevance in public service. In his remarks, Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the ANA fellowship investiture rightly acknowledges not only Arogbofa's literary achievements but also his pivotal role in shaping enduring ideas and narratives that influence governance and activism.

"For decades, he has demonstrated that public life can be principled, that activism can be refined by intellect, and that leadership can be firm without bitterness," the governor stated. "Systems thrive when there are voices of conscience. Governments remain grounded when there are elders whose counsel is guided by principle and enriched by history."

Former Minister Tokunbo Kayode Highlights Educational Impact

Former Minister of Defence Tokunbo Kayode, who chaired the occasion, underscored that Arogbofa's lifestyle serves as a vital lesson for younger generations, particularly Gen Z, encouraging them to cultivate habits of reading and writing. Kayode noted that Arogbofa's book on Afenifere provides much-needed clarity on the organisation's identity and purpose, opening new avenues for it to expand its scope and become more dynamic in contemporary times.

"Anyone who can understand Afenifere will appreciate that it is a huge compendium of history's background and evolution. He has summarised it and given us a clearer idea," Kayode said. "Afenifere's role is to ensure that Yoruba culture and ethos do not fade away. It must not become fossilised or antiquated; rather, it should be rejuvenated by bringing in younger generations. That is what Baba has tried to do, and we are grateful to him for that."

Academic Review Praises Thought-Provoking Works

In a book review presented at the event, Prof. Femi Mimiko, represented by Prof. Francis Ayodeji Gbore, Vice Chancellor of Sam Maris University, Supare-Akoko, described the two books as thought-provoking and well-researched works that address key societal issues. Mimiko highlighted that the book on Afenifere stands out for its relevance in today's world, offering practical insights accessible to readers from diverse backgrounds, thereby enriching public discourse on cultural preservation and leadership.

The induction into the ANA Hall of Fame and fellowship investiture not only celebrate Arogbofa's past achievements but also inspire future generations to value literature, public service, and cultural heritage, reinforcing the importance of intellectual contributions in nation-building.
